[Base Perks](/games/ufc/ufc-6/news/ufc-6-flow-states-explained) are the passive foundation of UFC 6&#39;s perk system. Every perk a fighter has, not just their main one, contributes a Base Effect: a small but broad bonus to their capabilities that remains active for the full fight. They don&#39;t need to be triggered or earned; they&#39;re always working in the background.

- Every perk a fighter has grants a Base Effect. This includes all perks, not just the Main Perk
- Base Effects are passive and always active. They don&#39;t require the Flow Meter or any specific action to function
- Base Effects are intentionally modest and broad. They provide consistent small advantages rather than dramatic situational boosts
- A fighter with three perks receives three separate Base Effects simultaneously, each contributing to their overall capability
- Base Effects are visible in the Fighter Select screen and the Pause Menu. Checking these before a fight shows what passive bonuses your opponent has active

## Key Tips

Base Perks work quietly but consistently. Unlike Flow Boosts or Flow State, they don&#39;t create dramatic moments, but they accumulate across an entire fight. When assessing a fighter, factor in all their Base Effects, not just their Main Perk&#39;s Flow State. Multiple small advantages in the right areas, slightly better blocking, slightly cheaper strikes, slightly stronger submissions, can shape a fight in ways that aren&#39;t always obvious until late rounds.

[Flow Boosts](/games/ufc/ufc-6/news/ufc-6-flow-states-explained) are the specific actions that fill the Flow Meter by a large amount in UFC 6. Each perk defines a precise trigger, usually something that reflects how a real fighter uses their style, and performing that action rewards you with a significant chunk of the Flow Meter. They&#39;re designed to encourage playing to the fighter&#39;s strengths rather than just general effectiveness.

- Flow Boosts are specific actions tied to each perk that fill the Flow Meter by a large amount when performed
- All of a fighter&#39;s perks can trigger Flow Boosts, not just their Main Perk. Multiple perks means multiple Flow Boost opportunities
- Flow Boosts are not required to fill the Flow Meter. Effective striking and grappling in general also builds it, just more slowly
- Flow Boosts cannot activate when the Flow Meter is already full or while it&#39;s being drained during an active Flow State
- Each Flow Boost trigger is visible in Fighter Select and the Pause Menu. Knowing your opponent&#39;s triggers helps you understand what actions they&#39;re incentivised to take

## How to Activate Flow Boost

No specific button input. This is a passive perk effect that activates automatically based on how you fight
## Key Tips

Flow Boosts reward playing to your fighter&#39;s identity. The fastest route to activating Flow State is combining general effective fighting with deliberate attempts at your Flow Boost triggers. Learn each trigger before a match, build habits around performing them naturally during exchanges, and you&#39;ll fill the Flow Meter far quicker than relying on volume alone. Keep in mind that your opponent&#39;s Flow Boosts reveal exactly what they&#39;re trying to do, recognising their triggers lets you disrupt their path to Flow State.

[Flow State](/games/ufc/ufc-6/news/ufc-6-flow-states-explained) is the most powerful tool in UFC 6&#39;s perk system, an extreme, time-limited boost to fighting ability that reflects how your fighter actually competes in real life. It must be earned by filling the Flow Meter, then activated. Once active, it drains the meter to mark its duration, and the effects are specific to your fighter&#39;s Main Perk rather than generic bonuses.

- Flow State is an extreme boost to fighting ability, tied specifically to a fighter&#39;s Main Perk. Their first listed perk
- It must be activated after filling the Flow Meter. It doesn&#39;t trigger automatically
- During Flow State, there are visual effects and modified sounds, and the Flow Meter drains to show the remaining duration
- Both fighters can have their Flow States active at the same time. Managing your own timing and disrupting the opponent&#39;s are both important
- If the round ends during Flow State, the unused portion of the Flow Meter carries over to the next round. Except for Last Stand, which is a special case
- Flow State does not grant generic bonuses. The effects are entirely specific to the fighter&#39;s Main Perk, making each fighter feel distinctly different

## Key Tips

Flow State is most effective when used with intention rather than activated the moment it&#39;s available. Fill the meter, then choose a moment where the specific bonus will have maximum impact, a Tiger Flow State is most valuable with a clean punching window, a Phoenix Flow State most impactful after surviving a stun. Check what your opponent&#39;s Flow State does before the fight and factor it into your game plan: knowing when it&#39;s likely coming and what it does gives you a meaningful tactical edge.
